Cheers to Holland, which celebrated its tenth anniversary Friday of being the first country to legalize gay marriage. The plague of locusts and hellfires of doom have thus far failed to materialize.
In yet another sign the 'Don't ask, don't tell' policy is fading fast, a Navy panel is allowing openly-gay Petty Officer 2nd Class Derek Morado to continue serving. Meanwhile, the Pentagon says that the process of educating the troops about the policy's repeal is going "extremely well so far". This news will make the Henny Penny what-about-the-shower-stalls crowd (I'm ogling you, Tony Perkins, you sexy beast!) writhe in agony. Let us all pause a moment to point and laugh.
The winner of the latest Republican presidential straw poll in New Hampshire is?[pulls out jeweler's loupe, reads name on straw]?openly-gay candidate Fred Karger by five points over Mittens! (But, of course, everyone knows that the first openly-gay POTUS will, in fact, be Kevin Keller?)
PFLAG is one of many advocacy groups thanking Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius for her action plan that focuses on several LGBT issues. The health-data collection efforts alone will be welcome and useful. (Gold star also to the president for directing HHS to create this blueprint.)

Rick Santorum. Tim Pawlenty. Sarah Palin. Glenn Beck. The Prime Minister of Britain, who leads the Conservative Party there, made a video, and we haven't seen one from anyone on the right in the U.S. to even say, You're 14 and gay. Don't kill yourself.

Today's boring correction: Bill Maher said in his New Rules segment Friday on Real Time that "Other than Gavin Newsom, Dennis Kucinich and that Governor of New Jersey who went all 'Brokeback Mountain' with his bodyguard, no Democrat will touch this issue [of gay marriage] with a ten-inch pole." First, the Justice Department is no longer defending DOMA. Second, this:
Democrats introduced legislation in both houses of Congress Wednesday to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, the 1996 law barring the federal government from recognizing legal same-sex marriages. ? The proposed legislation, The Respect for Marriage Act, would repeal DOMA, allowing married same-sex couples to receive federal marriage benefits. The Senate bill, introduced by California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, has 19 co-sponsors, all of whom are Democrats. A matching bill---also sponsored solely by Democrats---was introduced in the House.
